Cold-rolled steel is made from hot-rolled coils, which are rolled at room temperature below the recrystallisation temperature. The thickness of cold rolled steel sheet is generally between 0.1 and 8.0mm, with most factories producing cold rolled steel up to 4.5mm.

The advantage of hot-rolled sheet is that it is hot-rolled at high temperature, which can remodel the internal structure of the steel and make the grains of the steel finer.
